The Story of DGA Threads

DGA Threads is a fashion brand by Italian art collector Giuseppe De Giosa. A former banker, De Giosa has lived in Singapore, Hong Kong and India since the early 90s. During that time, he has amassed a mesmerizing collection of Asian art and curios that he exhibits at his gallery, Degiosart, at Tiong Bahru’s Eng Hoon Street.

This latest venture into the world of fashion was inspired by the idea of staying mindful of the here and now whilst also keeping a piece of the past with us. It’s an admirable philosophy that will resonate with anyone tired of the modern trend for throwaway fashion, plus it translates into some gorgeous gear.
Chic and unique, DGA Threads re-purposes vintage Japanese textiles from De Giosa’s collection, turning beautiful silk garments like Japanese haori and kimonos into contemporary, wearable pieces for everyday life.
Driven by the passion for vintage textiles, Japanese culture, and design, we aim to create exquisite pieces of garments and accessories by transforming traditional textiles into signature pieces for the modern lifestyle. In the age of fast fashion and mass produced goods, we pride ourselves on creating limited one-of-a-kind pieces. By combining traditional textiles with classic fabrics, we are re-purposing an otherwise disused fabric into contemporary products that aim to highlight our quality and beauty, breathing a new life and a renewed purpose to them. Today, these fabrics are disused, but still their beauty is unparalleled.

We want to continue the legacy of these fabrics, so we take only the best parts of the vintage textile and incorporate them into their modern designs. Our design philosophy is rooted in the Japanese cultural tradition of 'Mottainai', which conveys a sense of regret to wastage and respect for resources. Due to the scarce and limited nature of the vintage textile, each item is only produced once based on the availability of the textile in they inventory. This allows us to offer our customers a truly unique item that they can call their own.
All products are designed and made locally by our seamstress who shares with us the same passion and vision. This is only possible through the close and collaborative relationship between our designers and seamstress here in our base of Singapore.
