Another complex field composition consists of the swastika fretwork pattern that was popularized, perhaps, in Chinese wood furniture, from where it found its way into the medium of weaving. Again, we see a border with a wealth of Buddhist iconography, though the palette does not indicate monastic use. It was probably commissioned by a wealthy family in one of the sponsored weaving projects around either Shigatse or Gyantse. The use of indigo is exceptionally pleasing.
