Khaden

An interesting type of rug, typical of a particular late 19th- or early 20th-century production, with a minimal palette. Two shades of blue and ivory wool are used to execute a pattern more often associated with the stencial patterned felts thought to come from Mongolia, which are also executed with a minimalist palette. A playful bird flies among flowers springing forth from water, surrounded by a very intricately drawn minor border that is framed by a beautifully drawn primary border containing many Buddhist icons.
