The actual weaving process of this rug must have been very difficult. To construct the fretwork pattern as the ground of the rug with large, boldly drawn lotus designs is unusual, evidence of the artistry of the weaver and mastery over the physical materials- the loom and the different colored woolen yarns. Drawn with a slight asymmetry, the flowers float effortlessly over the tightly controlled grid below.
